Building an accessible holiday stay cabin in Hopetoun

holiday stay cabin hopetoun

Our latest project in Hopetoun, Western Australia, an amazing beach side location, has been one to remember.

Built for the Hopetoun Beachside caravan park, these custom cabins were designed to offer not only comfort and style but also be fully wheelchair accessible. Let’s take you inside the project!

Why Hopetoun?

Hopetoun is one of WA’s most underrated coastal gems. Tucked between stunning beaches, national parks, and endless blue skies, Hopetoun is a destination that attracts many holidaymakers. The park offers a wide range of beach activities including hiking, fishing, 4×4 and much more.

With steady tourism growth and an increasing demand for holiday accommodation, the caravan park commissioned the build of two fully accessible holiday cabins from Aussie Bush Cabins.

The brief

Build a fully wheelchair-accessible, disabled-compliant modular home that can be used for holiday rental within the park.

This project is all about inclusion. It’s about creating a space where guests of all abilities can stay and enjoy everything Hopetoun has to offer without limitations.

With accessible accommodation in high demand across regional WA, this investment makes a huge difference to both visitors and the park’s long-term offerings.

Modular home specifications

At Aussie Bush Cabins we offer a wide range of different modular homes to choose from. This was however a custom build cabin, created specifically to meet accessibility and holiday rental requirements.

-Number of cabins: x2

-Size: 15m x 4.4m

-Layout: 2 bedrooms

-Bathrooms: 1 fully accessible bathroom

-Access: Full wheelchair access throughout

Every doorway, hallway, and living space was designed with mobility in mind. From step-free entry to spacious interiors, the cabin is built to be easy to move through and live in.

Coastal challenges

Building near the ocean always comes with some challenges compared to building inland such as coastal zoning requirements.

To meet strict coastal conditions, Colorbond Ultra cladding was used for all external cladding. This material is designed to resist corrosion from salt air. As a result, the modular home will look good for years to come, even in tough seaside conditions.

It’s a great example of how smart material choices can protect your investment long-term, especially when building near the coast.

Site works & installation

Before the cabins could even arrive on site, the caravan park owner had plenty of preparation work to tackle.

This included:

  • Removal of existing units on site
  • Clearing trees
  • Bringing in additional sand and gravel
  • Completing all necessary site works

Getting large modular home into position is always one of the most challenging stages, especially in busy park environments with tight access. Most of the complexity came down to maneuvering the units into place safely and accurately.

However, with the right planning, teamwork, and experience, everything came together perfectly.
